In January 2020 Microsoft will have several software programmes that will be going end-of life.

Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and 2008 R2 – support will end on January 14th 2020.

Office 2010 – support will end on October 13th 2020 (Please note Office 2010 is Not Windows 10 Compatible).

End-Of-Life, Means:

  • No technical support for issues

  • No bug fixes for issues that are discovered

  • No updates – therefore no security fixes for vulnerabilities that are discovered

  • No compliance

End of support 2020

Because of the changes listed above, we strongly recommend that you upgrade as soon as possible.

This will also possibly mean your current Desktops, Laptops and Servers may need to be replaced, if not compatible with the new versions of software. Please note; some hardware maybe upgradable by just adding more memory or an SSD (Solid State Hard Drive). Talk to your ICT expert who will be able to advise you of the best course of action.

Microsoft strongly recommend that you move to the new Windows or Office Version, sometime before January 2020 to avoid a situation where you need service or support that is no longer available.

Do not just go out and buy all new kit and software from anywhere, talk to your ICT expert.

Think about setting up an ICT 5 Year Business Development Plan / Strategy including budgets and costs.

Look at using Microsoft Open Volume Licensing Service and see how this can save you money and allow free features for both staff and pupils.
